Our resort is on the east side of Koh Lipe towards the Southern end of Sunrise Beach. You will arrive on Koh Lipe by sea. Most of the year the speed boats stop outside the reef and are met either on a pontoon or at sea by local long tail boats which for 50 baht per person will bring you to Castaway.

All around the resort there are spaces to chill out and relax. Each bungalow has a shaded balcony with cushions and hammocks. The front of the restaurant and bar is a large covered deck with cushions and low tables where you can sit and look out over the sea. On the beach we have salas where you can sit in the shade and be part of the beach life. Our house coral reef is right in front of the beach and can be explored by snorkelling and diving.

In the resort we have a little massage centre where our masseuse who are all trained in Wat Pho traditional Thai massage, can massage away your aches and pains and help you to truly relax into your holiday.

Downstairs from the deck, right on the beach we have our very own Dive Centre, Castaway Divers. Here we run adventure trips to visit the surrounding islands, snorkelling trips and of course scuba diving. We also rent kayaks and snorkel sets.

When we started thinking about building a resort the first thought we had was that it had to be eco friendly. We wanted to blend with the environment and not use lots of diesel generating electricity.

Our designs have been heavily influenced by traditional Thai building methods. All our buildings are made of natural hard woods built on posts buried in the ground eliminating the need for concrete foundations. The roofs are made from local thatch. The combination of natural materials keeps the bungalows cooler as they don't retain the heat. The bungalows themselves catch the winds that come in off the beach and channel them inside, keeping you cool as you sleep, even without air conditioning.

Low energy bulbs are used everywhere for our lighting to save power. For now our electricity still comes from diesel generators, but we are working with Solution Carbon, a French company specialising in carbon credits and carbon offsets, to replace our generators with clean sources of power.

Koh Lipe is a beautiful little island and if we are all to enjoy it for a long time to come we need to look after it and the environment.

1. Castaway Resort: The House

We have 1 House which is situated at the back of the resort furthest from the beach. The House has 2 bedrooms, a shared bathroom and a fantastic large deck on the second floor for hanging out on. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed with a mosquito net and a large ceiling fan. The downstairs bedroom has 2 single beds with mosquito nets and one wall mounted fan. The large shared bathroom has a western toilet, cold water shower and sink.

The House is not suitable for families with small children.

2. Castaway Resort: Garden Breezy Bungalows

Our Breezy bungalows have two storeys, with a deck and a bathroom downstairs and a bedroom upstairs that has double doors opening out onto a little balcony. The upstairs bedroom has a comfortable double bed with hill tribe bedspread and cushions, with and a mosquito net over the bed. The bedroom is cooled by the natural breezes funnelled into the room, if that's not enough there is a large ceiling fan to keep you cool. To keep your stuff safe there is a sturdy wooden chest with padlock. The large downstairs bathroom has a western toilet, cold water shower, sink and storage space.

We have 5 Garden Breezy bungalows all very close to the beach.

Our 10 Comfy bungalows have garden views and a large deck with hammocks and cushions for chilling. The main room has a comfortable double bed with hill tribe bedspread and cushions all covered with a mosquito net. The bedroom is cooled by the natural breezes funnelled into the room, if that's not enough there is a large ceiling fan to keep you cool. The bathroom has a western toilet, cold water shower and sink. To lock your stuff in there is a sturdy wooden chest with padlock.

We can put a roll up mattress with mosquito net on the floor for an extra person. For families we can add 2 extra roll up mattresses for 2 children. Its a bit of a squeeze, but children enjoy it!

A buddhist blessing is a romantic way to celebrate your love and commitment to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. And what could be more romantic than doing it on a beautiful beach on a remote island surrounded by family and friends.

Buddhist Blessings are conducted at Castaway by monks from the local buddhist temple on the island. Blessings are conducted by 3 monks, who on arrival in the resort are welcomed and invited to take their position sitting in the traditional way, facing West. The senior monk will lead the ceremony chanting prayers in ancient Pali blessing the couple who will kneel down before the monks, with heads bowed and hands held together in a respectful wai. The monks will drape a sacred thread across the heads of the couple, linking them together as a sign of their commitment to one another.

The blessing will last about 30 minutes and when it is finished the newly blessed couple will invite the monks to eat. Once they have finished eating the monks will return to their monastery at the temple. A show of appreciation in the form of a cash donation to the monastery is traditional.

Castaway Drive

In the resort we have our very own dive centre, Castaway Divers . When we set up our dive centre we were looking to do something a little different. We started with the idea of if we came to Koh Lipe to dive what would we want and designed it from there.

We dive in small groups from our own boats that can get you to the dive sites quickly. No sitting around in big boats all day waiting your turn to dive. Whether you are going diving for your first time or dive regularly we want your experience to be fun.

Not just for scuba diving, Castaway Divers organises all our beach activities including renting kayaks and snorkel gear. Organising daily snorkel trips into the national park and boat trips to deserted beaches.

With the marine park around Koh Lipe and the islands Koh Adang and Koh Rawi right next door there is so much to explore by boat. We organise boat trips and have trips suitable for families with children and for those that want a little bit more adventure.

Visit Beaches & Islands

Although Koh Lipe's beaches are beautiful, why not visit a deserted island and have the whole beach for yourself? We?ll send you off with a pack lunch and water and you can spend a leisurely few hours hanging out on a deserted beach and swimming by yourself. If you want something more adventurous go on a jungle trek and visit waterfalls, or go and see the troupe of crab eating macaques.

Snorkelling

The underwater world around Koh Lipe and in the Marine Park are a wonder to behold. You don't need to be a diver to enjoy it - take a snorkel trip and explore one of the hundreds of coral reefs within the area. For more information download our boat trip guide book.

Castaway Resort Koh Lipe: The Beach

We are truly blessed on Koh Lipe - We are surrounded by beautiful seas with the most amazing colours from the ever changing sun light. Around the island are coral reefs teeming with fish and wild life. The beaches are all covered in white sand. Its impossible to visit Koh Lipe without spending lots of time admiring the beaches and the sea.

One of the best ways to explore the seas around Koh Lipe is by snorkelling. You can rent gear in the resort and go snorkelling directly from our beach and see a lot of fish and coral. When you've exhausted Sunrise Beach take one of our snorkel tours to the nearby islands. For more information see our Boat Trips page.

If you don't like getting wet and snorkelling is not your thing rent a kayak and explore the small islands off Sunrise Beach. If you want to be more adventurous you can kayak all the way over to Adang and explore the beaches there.

Koh Lipe is a small island 60km offshore in the Andaman sea on the edge of the Tarutao National Marine Park,Thailand's second oldest marine park. Surrounded by beautiful seas rich with hundreds of coral reefs and sea life, Koh Lipe is the only inhabited island in the group of 51 protected islands.

Today Koh Lipe is still home to some six hundred Chao Lei people who are descended from 'sea gypsies' that have lived on the Andaman coast for centuries. Masters of the sea the Chao Lei settled on Koh Lipe when the King of Thailand offered them citizenship and land in return for settling the island, and thus fixing Thailand's southern sea border with Malaysia. Idyllic Concept Resort is located at Sunrise Beach, Koh Lipe , a small tropical island a part of the 60 Islands group, Tarutao National Marine Park, Andaman Sea. Koh Lipe Island is located off the Satun province in Thailand.

Transportation to Koh Lipe

Visitors in Thailand may take the island Speed boat from Pak Bara, which is a small port town in Satun Province about an hour drive by car from the major city of Hat Yai. Island speed boats bound for Koh Lipe leave twice daily at 11:30 hrs. and at 14.00 hrs., stopping at either Koh Tarutao or Koh Kai en route. Speed boats directly to Koh Lipe may be chartered from Pak Bara also.

Visitors from Malaysia

may take the Speed boat from Langkawi which bound for Koh Lipe at 9.00hrs.daily. Speed boats directly to Koh Lipe may be chartered from Langkawi also.

Transfer by Idyllic’s hotel Van from Hat Yai Airport to Pakbara pier including speedboat ticket maybe has for THB 900 per person one way only.

Please note: please arrived at Had Yai Aprport before 9.30hrs.
The hotel staff will pick you up at the airport with a sharing van can take you directly to Satun at Pakbara pier.
Tourists should purchase the Speedboat ticket to Koh Lipe, directly at the pier from the company, rather than on the road from the ticket tour counter If you arrive on Koh Lipe on a one way ticket, return tickets or tickets to different destinations can be purchased at Idyllic Concept Resort.
Long tail taxi boats cost THB 50 per person from Koh Lipe pier and will take you directly to Idyllic Concept Resort Beach where our staff will handle your luggage’s.

Koh Lipe (sometimes referred to as Koh Leepeeh or Koh Leepay)is a small island in the Southern Thai province of Satun, and is situated in the Andaman Sea. The island is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, a large group of over 70 islands. Koh Lipe is part of a smaller cluster of 10 island, about 70 kilometres off shore. All of the islands can be visited on day trips, and the largest island in the group, Koh Adang, has bungalows ran by the National Park Authority. The name "Koh Lipe" means paper Island in the local Chao Ley(or Urak Lawoi or Sea Gypsy) language.

High & Low Season

From November until May daily ferries connect Koh Lipe to Pak Barra, Langkawi, Koh Lanta, Trang, Koh Ngai, Koh Muk and Koh Bulon. From may until November weekly ferries service Koh Lipe from Pak Barra. Most ferries depart from Pak Barra, a small fishing town close to Satun. Peak season on Koh Lipe is December and January, when advanced bookings are recommended and the island completely fills up.

Life is a beach

Popular activities on Koh Lipe are snorkelling and diving. There is good snorkelling straight off the beaches, but the best spots can be seen on the popular day trips that visit a few locations in a day, combined with a pick nick on a beautiful beach. There are several dive shops, and many resorts rent out snorkel gear and can arrange boat trips. We also arrange daily snorkelling trips from our travel shop on Koh Lipe.

Pattaya, Sunset and Sunrise Beach

There are 3 main beaches on Koh Lipe: Pattaya Beach, Sunset Beach and Sunrise Beach. The first one is the most popular and has a wide variety of places to stay, drink and eat. Sunrise Beach has quite a few resorts as well as a small Chao Ley (Sea Gypsies) Village with some basic shops and small eateries. Sunset beach is the smallest beach and has only has a couple of places to stay. Take a look at our island map to get a better picture.
